Many artist like to mix their media, but for her latest project, Middletown artist Linda Fisler will not only combine image, movement and sound---she'll also take a little Manhattan with it.
Fisler is in the midst of creating paintings for a special video project that will show her artwork accompanied by the music of her friend Wayne Johnson, a Grammy-winning musician who has played guitar for the Manhattan Transfer. She hopes to release the video early next year, in January or February, she said.
Fisler came up with the idea for the project when she went on vacation recently in North Carolina and was thinking about how nice it would be if people could take a much needed break without having to go anywhere.
"I was thinking of ways of how I could get art to more people and I thought(this video) would be kind of like taking a mini-vacation." she said.
Any good vacation needs music to go along with it, so Fisler asked Johnson about it. The music in the video will be to Johnson's song called "Baby" from his "One Guitar" CD released in 2003.
Fisler has already completed two paintings: a sea otter and a lighthouse, with about eight or nine more to go. The overall emphasis will be on landscape scenes from the west coast to the east.
Synching the paintings to the music will be Don Rumford of Middletown-based Rumford Productions.
"We will shoot (the paintings), listen to the music and see what we can work out." Rumford said. "We want to create some dramatic effects by matching the music to the image. It's all storytelling."
"It's such a pleasure to be part of this new concept in multimedia relaxation enhancement," Johnson said in a press release. "I'm very proud to have my music added to Linda's beautiful and thought-provoking images."
