Pickwick Studio Workshops

Welcome to the Pickwick Studio Workshop Series!

Our mission with the Pickwick Studio Workshop Series is to provide a small group of artists with a very personal experience with some of today’s master artists.  These workshops are designed to be intimate (no more than 10 students, your hosts and the master artist) which allows for more one on one interaction with the master artists. Over the years of attending workshops, we have heard many fellow students lament that they wished for an opportunity to study with master artists in a smaller class size environment. That is what we are all about!

The Pickwick Studio Workshop Series is hosted by two artists: Chris Lohr and Linda Riesenberg Fisler. Both artists have a background in instruction, attending other workshops, and have successful careers that include creating, marketing, and entrepreneurship. We understand the need for more intimate and intense study that artists crave.

If you are looking for an opportunity to study with a master artist in a smaller class size environment that results in more attention, want instruction that will up your game, and guidance to help meet your goals, then the Pickwick Studio Workshop Series is for you! These workshops are primarily intended for intermediate to advance painters unless otherwise noted in the descriptions below!

Where:

The Pickwick Studio is located in downtown Middletown, Ohio (USA). Conveniently located between Cincinnati and Dayton, this location provides you a choice of airports to fly into if you are attending from out of state. We’ll provide travel instructions and a list of hotels in the area.

The Studio:

Located in the historical Pickwick House, the studio has been lovingly renovated by Chris Lohr and also serves as Chris Lohr’s home.  This  historical house is on the Federal Register of Historic Places, built in 1836. Equipped with twelve foot ceilings, natural light provided by eight windows (with shades), and entirely daylight corrected lighting. These are only a few of the features of this gorgeous studio that you’ll fall in love with the minute you walk into the room!

INTERPRETING REALITY

LINE, SHAPE, VALUE, COLOR AND EDGES: Learn to interpret and see the subject in a new and interesting way, one that is based on using the basic elements of visual language. This workshop is for those artists who are interested in not only enhancing their painting skills, but also in understanding how one can approach a painting in a more creative way. Although we will be working from live models, the information in this workshop is applicable to any subject matter. There will be demonstrations, a slide presentation, and as much individual attention as possible. Instruction will be in oils and the class is primarily for the intermediate to advanced painter.

Please note: Gamsol will be provided by the Studio.  A list of materials needed will be supplied upon registration. Also, no mediums will be allowed. Since the studio is Chris’s residence, strict adherence to these two requests is important due to medical reasons.

PAINTING IN MINIATURE  July 21-23, 2017

$295.00

Oil Painting Workshop-with the option to paint in acrylics if you prefer
keircenouget
In this 3 day class we will focus on painting in miniature. True miniature paintings have a long history, beginning with the scribes in the medieval ages and continuing with the pocket portrait artists of the Victorian era. Today’s true miniatures can be any subject as long as they are painted in “the spirit of miniature,” are less than 25 square inches in size and items are depicted at 1/6th life size or less. We will paint still life objects in this workshop, and you can choose whether you would like to paint from life or from a photograph.

Benefits of painting in miniature include smaller work and storage spaces, less expense in supplies and shipping, a unique niche audience in the art world, and the camaraderie of a unique group of artists once you are assimilated into the societies and shows. Debra will share with you links to various quality shows, and she will outline the many societies and signature memberships available to you as a miniature artist. You can then decide if miniature painting is something you want to continue doing.
